Unfortunately, SNL isn't really a big deal anymore...it hasn't been funny in a decade (at least) and everyone knows it. It's more of a prestige thing, but the actual viewership and impact on your career isn't anything like what it used to be.
Yeah, entertainment is so fragmented that there's really no "big deal" on TV for musical acts anymore. Leno and Letterman get the predictable big acts and, by virtue of being five nights a week, get some up-and-coming or "alternative" acts as well. But SNL pretty much gets whoever's hot at that moment and has a big record label behind them.

Way back when, I understood that the SNL guest host could have some say in who the musical guest was, which made for some occasionally interesting choices, but over the years it has become programmed and corporate, just like radio.

I was lamenting this the other night while watching some Jools Holland show performances on Comcast on-demand----specifically lamenting that we don't have a show like that here. :(

Tonight, we are braving the sib zero temps and going out to see the Jo Jo Marsh band. Jo Jo is the chick singer, and her husband is a hot drummer named Marco. Marco is also a good guy who loves to bullshit and loves music of all kinds.
Looking forward to it...

Ocean Colour Scene were amazing last night.
Saying I'm a product of my generation. You could make a film about that.

Ever notice these days how Courtney Love looks worse than Kurt Cobain?

saw faith no more last thursday, they were great!!! neil hamburger opened for them and it was awesome, 3,000 people booing and throwing things at him, i've seen him a couple of times before and i was pissing myself laughing. Faith no more came out and played like a bunch of 20 year olds i was tired just watching them.

the following night was amanda palmer at the forum and she was awesome. the forum was maybe a little big for her to be playing solo but it still worked. at one point paul kelly came out and did winter coat with her, then mick harvey came out and played piano while paul and her did henry lee by nick cave. She finished the show by doing radioheads creep from the balcony unplugged.

i'm going to the pixies on the 22nd which will be great and i think that will be it before i head overseas.

Through work, got a free (4th fucking row!) ticket to a benefit thing tonight with Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Dave Matthews & Patty Griffin. Sometimes, living here is kind of awesome. :vhappy2:

I saw Jo Caulfield do some standup tonight, as a preview to her Edinburgh show. We were 2 of 26 people in the audience. Very, very funny though.
